Message

Remain in Me (Jesus)

John 15:1-10

Key Verse:15:5

  1. This lecture was the second part of Jesus’ farewell speech to his disciples because he was just about arrested to be crucified.  Usually people tell the truth and give a very important message to people close to them.
  1. Jesus must have passed by grapevine with his disciples, after giving them a lecture in an upper room.  There was a great grapevine sculpture in the temple. The

grapevine is the symbol of Israel. (Isa 5:1-10)

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener….(Vs 1)

  • I am the vine; you are the branches. (Vs 5)----This verse teaches us what kind of relationship between Jesus and us. Jesus is the true vine:---the source of life.
                • Jesus is the source of fruit.

John 1:1-4. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” (Jn 1:1-4)

John 14:6: “I am the way and the truth and the life…No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Intimate and Inseparable relationship.----Life-giving relationship.

Branches cannot survive without a vine…. Branches cannot bear fruit without a vine. Branches cannot sustain on its own.

A vine provides water, minerals and all necessary nutrients for branches.

  • Jesus is the true vine.  There are many fake vines in this world which bear many bad fruits.---  But, Jesus is the true vine.

  • Our Father is the Gardener:  God planted the vine on this earth. What the gardener desires are fruits, not many leaves. The Gardener cut off branches which cannot bear fruits, prunes branches in order to make more fruitful.

In order to bear fruits, in order to make more fruitful, what God wants to cut off?

Cut off: (Airo) in Greek means “lift up” or “remove”

Prune: (Cathario) means “clean” or “purify”.

What kinds of branches you are? Branches which does not bear fruits ,or branches which bear fruits, or just connected to the vine.

This is God’s message about judgment to come. When we bear no fruit, we will be judged.
