Question

Man’s Basic Duty and attitude

Luke 20:20-26;21:1-4

Key Verse: 20:25

  1. Read verse 20-22. What did Jesus teach the religious leaders previously? (9-19) What was the purpose of those who came to question Jesus? How did they flatter Jesus? Why was their question a trap?

  2. Read verses 23-25. What was Jesus’ answer and how did it silence them? What do the words “give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” mean?

  1. What do we owe “Caesar”? What do we owe God? How do Jesus’ words teach us about our basic duties as people of God and citizens of our country? (Lk 20:10, Mt 17:24-27, 1Pe 2:12, 1Ti 2:1,2) Why did the religious leaders become silent? (26)

  1. Read verses 21:1-4. What did Jesus say about those who brought gifts to the temple? What spiritual principle did he teach? What is the contrast of value systems in the spiritual and material worlds? What kind of attitude we should have when we bring our gifts to God? (Deut 6:5, Lev 7:12, 2 Co 9:7)
