1. Read verses 1-3. What was the political situation of the times? Read v. 4-5. Why did Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem (Mic 5:2, Is 11:1, Jer 23:5)? What does this event reveal about the work of God?

2. Read v. 6-7. When Jesus was born, where was he laid and why? What contrasts can you find in this event? What does "there was no room in the inn" tell us about the people of that time?

3. Read v. 8-12. To whom did the angel announce Jesus’ birth (8-9)? What is the good news (10-11)? Why do men need a Savior from sin? (Ro 3:23, 6:23. Heb 9:27) What is the sign of the Messiah (12; Isa 7:14)?

4. Read v. 13-14. How did the angels in heaven respond? How does Jesus become ‘glory to God and peace to men”? (Jn 1:14, Ro 5:1, Eph 2:14-18, He 5:8) Read v. 15-20. What did the shepherds and Mary recognize regarding the sign (15-20)? How could they do that?
